It is the time of the year for the Yule Log, also known as Buche de Noel. The Buche de Noel is a French Christmas tradition, where a traditional French dessert is served after the main Christmas dinner, known as the Yule Log or Buche de Noel.
In medieval times, a log of wood, often from a fruit tree was burned to ensure a successful harvest in the year to come. This event was the center of every family's holiday activities. On Christmas Eve, the log had to burn for at least three days for good luck. In modern times, the Yule Log dessert is a tribute to this and helps ensure the tradition carries on through future generations.
The Yule Log/Buche de Noel is made from rolled Chocolate Flourless Cake filled with Chocolate Mousse. The outside is made to resemble the bark of a tree, decorated with confectioner's sugar (to resemble snow), poinsettias, and Meringue mushrooms.
